Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris (born October 20th 1964) was an American politician, attorney, and the current vice president of the United States. She is the first female vice-president and the highest ranking female official of the United America. She is a part of the Democratic Party and was previously the attorney general of California between 2011 and 2017. Additionally, she served as a United States senator representing California between 2017 and 2021. Harris was born in Oakland and graduated from Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Her career began with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later recruited to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003, she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was reelected in 2014. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and legalization of cannabis, a path to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, as well as the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings has garnered the attention of the nation, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh who was indicted with sexual assault.
